Step inside the LEGENDARY HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN Hollywood’s most spirited response to WORLD WAR II. Opened in 1942 by John Garfield and Bette Davis the Canteen was a NIGHTCLUB EXCLUSIVELY FOR SERVICEMEN staffed entirely by Hollywood stars volunteering their time to serve food sign autographs dance and entertain troops free of charge. FROM JOAN CRAWFORD AND RITA HAYWORTH TO CARY GRANT AND SPENCER TRACY A-list celebrities GAVE SERVICEMEN A MAGICAL ESCAPE FROM THE HARDSHIPS OF WAR. With live music jitterbugging floor shows and even murals painted by top artists the Hollywood Canteen was a dazzling combination of glamour generosity and patriotism. This presentation EXPLOREs THE HISTORY STORIES AND UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS OF THE CANTEEN—from the millionth serviceman welcomed by Marlene Dietrich and Betty Grable to Hedy Lamarr serving sandwiches and FRANK SINATRA crooning for the troops.
