Estevanico: Highlighting the Journey of Mustafa Azemmouri

In partnership with the Arab-American Educational Foundation (AAEF), the Arab-American Educational Foundation Center for Arab Studies (CAS) at the University of Houston, and the Moroccan Society of Houston (MSH).
This event is the first of a two-day series exploring the life and legacy of Mustafa Azemmouri, also known as Estevanico. Estevanico, a native of Azemmour on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, was sold into slavery circa 1522 when the town was under Portuguese control. He became the first known Arab and African explorer of North America, leaving a lasting mark on history.
- Day 1: Friday, April 25, 7:00 p.m.: Reception at 7:00 PM at the ACC, followed by keynote speaker Dr. Abdelkader Jamoussi and a documentary screening on Estevanico

Day 2: Saturday, April 26, 10:00 a.m.: Panel Discussion at 10:00 AM at the University of Houston's Arab-American Educational Foundation Center for Arab Studies (CAS).
