About this Event
The Story Beneath the Scene: Narrative Repair Through Sand, Play & Symbol is a trauma-informed training focused on how disrupted narratives emerge symbolically in sand tray and play therapy. Clients often communicate their lived experiences through images, scenes, and symbols before words are available. This training explores how therapists can attune to symbolic storytelling, support narrative repair, and help clients reorganize fragmented or traumatic stories into coherent, integrated meaning. Through experiential activities, clinical examples, and interventions, participants learn to work with children, adolescents, and adults using sand, play, and metaphor as pathways to healing.
Learning Objectives
- Identify how narrative disruption and repair appear symbolically in sand tray and play therapy.
- Demonstrate at least three sand tray or play-based interventions that support symbolic storytelling and narrative integration.
- Apply developmentally appropriate narrative-focused play interventions with children and adolescents.
- Explain how trauma and attachment disruptions impact narrative development and meaning-making.
- Utilize symbolic and experiential interventions to support narrative repair and identity integration in play and therapy.
- Apply narrative-informed sand tray strategies to promote coherence, resilience, and emotional integration in clinical practice.
