In The Stepford Wives (2004), successful TV executive Joanna Eberhart (Nicole Kidman) moves to the seemingly idyllic suburban town of Stepford after a nervous breakdown, but soon discovers that the town's seemingly perfect wives are actually highly advanced robots or brainwashed women, all controlled by the men's powerful Men's Association, designed to be completely submissive and domestic. Along with her writer friend Bobbie Markowitz (Bette Midler), Joanna must uncover the secret of Stepford to save herself and her own identity from the same fate.
