The second concert within the 2024-2025 Employers Health Pops Series is The Steel Wheels: Americana Roots with the Symphony! Experience the full power of the Canton Symphony Orchestra in tandem with nationally-renown The Steel Wheels, who have long been at home in the creative space between tradition and innovation. Their music often explores themes of rural life, love, and social issues, delivered with rich vocal harmonies and skilled instrumental arrangements. Beforehand, the concert will be opened by Ben Gage, an amazing songwriter from the rustbelt of Northeast Ohio who was previously seen with the CSO as part of the Divergent Sounds Series.
The Steel Wheels blend tradition and innovation, rooted in the Virginia mountains. Formed in 2005 by Trent Wagler (guitar, banjo), Jay Lapp (vocals, guitars, mandolin), and Eric Brubaker (vocals, fiddle), they adopted The Steel Wheels name with the 2010 release of Red Wing. They self-produced three albums before collaborating with producer Sam Kassirer on Wild As We Came Here (2017) and Over The Trees (2019). Kevin Garcia (drums, percussion, keys) joined in 2017, and Jeremy Darrow completes the rhythm section. With thousands of shows and festivals behind them, The Steel Wheels share a deep bond with each other and their audience.
