About this Event

The Statuary Presents: Zoe Obadia Quartet

Zoe Obadia is one of the most original young voices on the alto saxophone of her generation. Joining her will be a trio of prodigious musicians who honed their craft at the Juilliard School, some of which she has been performing with for well over a decade through her association with the award-winning education program, Jazz House Kids. Expect to be enthralled by the nuanced and poignant artistry of this wonderful young musician as well as her incredible band.

About the Artist:

Zoe Obadia is an NYC based saxophonist, composer. Originally from New Jersey, she started playing the saxophone at a young age and became immersed in the community of great jazz musicians and educators in the award-winning music education program, Jazz House Kids. She moved to New York in 2014 to begin her studies at the Juilliard School, where she learned from Ron Blake, Kenny Washington, Dan Block and others. She has since performed in New York City as a leader and sideman at venues such as Dizzy’s, Mezzrow, Birdland, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, and has had the opportunity to play with Wynton Marsalis, the Mingus Big Band, Dave Stryker, Diane Schuur, and others.

About "The Statuary'' - "Where the line between the band and the audience ceases to exist. Jersey City's intimate home for jazz, art, and culture." The Statuary originated in 1907 as the Jersey Statuary Company of Jersey City where the two-story house was Gino DeSanctis's, sculptor and painter, workshop. In 2007, the building was converted into an active artist live/work/present space that has since been a home for community members to celebrate artistic expression, diversity, inclusion, and love through music. The Statuary echoes the mood of the 1970s Jazz Loft scene and provides a platform for innovative and culturally significant local, regional, and national musical talent in combination with visual art and multimedia presentations to create an ethereal atmosphere akin to the history that has shaped this one of a kind space.

This event is in partnership with https://RiverviewJazz.Org and supported by public funds from the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust Fund.!
