The Susquehanna Symphony begins its 49th Season by returning to Havre de Grace! The concert will begin with conductor Karen Gorden’s interpretation of Mussorgsky’s popular ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ as orchestrated by 20th century French composer Maurice Ravel. After intermission, Music Director Sheldon Bair will lead the orchestra in dances from around the world. The music of 20th century African-American composer Florence Price has experienced a resurgence in the past few years. Her ‘Dances in the Canebrakes’ are full of good fun and hijinks. The ‘Four Scottish Dances’ of Sir Malcolm Arnold are original tunes by Arnold, but are evocative of the dances, people, and countryside of Scotland. Lastly, the two dances by Dvorak bring to life 19th century dances from the Czech Republic.
