Το “The Space Cadet” προσγειώνεται ανανεωμένο στην καρδιά της Αθήνας, στη σκηνή του Ιδρύματος Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη. Η pop up παράσταση χορού που απέσπασε την τέταρτη θέση στα διεθνή βραβεία φωτισμού [d]arc awards, και έχει παρουσιαστεί σε εμβληματικές τοποθεσίες όπως το Εθνικό Αστεροσκοπείο Αθηνών, τα υψίπεδα του Ψηλορείτη και την ορεινή Βωβούσα, ξεκινά νέο κύκλο παραστάσεων.
Η ομάδα Third Planet γεφυρώνει ευφυώς τον σύγχρονο χορό και τη χιπ χοπ κουλτούρα με την αστροφυσική, τον αρχιτεκτονικό φωτισμό και τα εικαστικά, και μας προσκαλεί σ’ ένα μοναδικό ταξίδι στο δέος και την ησυχία του διαστήματος. Σε μια εποχή τεχνολογικών ζυμώσεων, συλλογικής αβεβαιότητας και συνεχούς αναζήτησης ταυτότητας, το “The Space Cadet” κάνει ένα μεγάλο zoom out από τη βοή της σύγχρονης Γης, κι ακολουθεί έναν μοναχικό ταξιδιώτη-αστροναύτη στο ταξίδι (δια)φυγής και επαναφοράς του σε αυτήν. Μεταξύ αφετηρίας και προορισμού, σε συνεχή μετάβαση, ο αστροναύτης ακροβατεί σε κόσμους και συνθήκες. Κι αναζητά το σημείο τομής δύο ταξιδιών: Του συλλογικού - με τη μελλοντική πορεία της ανθρωπότητας στραμμένη στην τεχνολογία και τ’ άστρα, κοιτώντας τη θέση της στο σύμπαν. Και του ατομικού ταξιδιού που σχετίζεται με την εσωτερική, προσωπική αναζήτηση του «ανήκειν» και την εύθραυστη σχέση με τη φύση, το «σπίτι», το σώμα μας, τη Γη.

Το “The Space Cadet“ ξεκίνησε το 2019 στο Λονδίνο ως ένα καλλιτεχνικό πείραμα και μια προσωπική ανάγκη για καταφύγιο μέσα στη διαλογιστική απεραντοσύνη του διαστήματος. Γρήγορα μεταμορφώθηκε μέσα από τη συνθήκη απομόνωσης της πανδημίας σε μια ζωντανή, εξελισσόμενη εμπειρία για τη δημιουργική ομάδα στην Αθήνα. Σε μια εποχή όπου η ανθρωπότητα αναγκάστηκε να κάνει παύση, να επαναπροσδιορίσει τα όριά της και ν’ αναζητήσει νέες ισορροπίες, η παράσταση έγινε για εμάς καταφύγιο και τόπος αναστοχασμού, με τον απομονωμένο αστροναύτη να παρατηρεί από μακριά. Μόνος αλλά και απόλυτα εξαρτώμενος από την ομάδα ανθρώπων που καθιστά δυνατή την υπεράνθρωπη περιπέτειά του εκτός της Γης. Προσκαλούμε το κοινό να βιώσει την αίσθηση της απομόνωσης και ταυτόχρονα της συλλογικότητας, της κατακλυσμιαίας επιθυμίας του ταξιδιού, αλλά και της ανάγκης για επιστροφή σε μια πατρίδα. Πρόκειται, λοιπόν, για ένα ταξίδι εξερεύνησης —όχι μόνο προς το διάστημα αλλά και προς το εσωτερικό σύμπαν του καθενός, με τη Γη ως μητρικό περιβάλλον, σημείο αφετηρίας, αυτό-αναφοράς και θύμησης της ενσώματης ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας μας.

Third Planet performing arts company invites us on a unique journey into the awe and stillness of space, bridging contemporary dance, hip-hop culture, astrophysics, architectural lighting and visual arts. In an era of technological shifts, collective uncertainty and continuous identity seeking, the project takes a grand zoom-out from the noise of modern Earth, following a lone traveler—an astronaut—on a journey of escape and return.
In the spacetime limbo between departure and destination, the astronaut, constantly in transition, navigates worlds and conditions, searching for the intersection of two journeys. A collective journey, with humanity pondering at its place in the cosmos through a hi-tech, interstellar future. And a personal journey, an internal quest for belonging and the fragile relationships with the spaces we inhabit, nature, home, our body, Earth.
In English, "space cadet" has a dual meaning: it refers both to a trainee astronaut and to someone detached from reality, emphasizing the transcendence of logic required for travels of such scale! The performance moves along both these axes. How can a journey—whether internal or cosmic—transform us? This is the fundamental question of the work.
On stage, a unique spacecraft at times resembles a home, a means of transport, a futuristic space vehicle, while at others, it feels like a prison, a toy, or even the astronaut's entire world. The work draws inspiration from astronaut training and recreates the conditions of space travel, generating a dynamic dialogue between light, sound, movement, and space.
‘The Space Cadet’ won fourth place at the international [d]arc lighting awards and has been presented at iconic locations such as the National Observatory of Athens, the highlands of Psiloritis, and the mountainous village of Vovousa. This time, it "lands" anew in the heart of Athens, at the Michalis Cacoyannis Foundation, launching a new series of performances.
Choreographer’s note:
“The Space Cadet" began in 2019, in London, as an artistic experiment and a personal need for refuge within the meditative vastness of space. It quickly transformed, through the isolating conditions of the pandemic, into a living, evolving experience for the creative team in Athens. In a time when humanity was forced to pause, redefine its limits, and seek new equilibriums, the piece became a sanctuary and a space of reflection for us— with the isolated astronaut observing from afar. Alone, yet entirely dependent on the team of people who make his superhuman adventure beyond Earth possible. We invite the audience to simultaneously experience feelings of isolation and communion, the overwhelming desire for travel, but also the deep need for the return to a homeland. This, is ultimately a journey of exploration—not only towards outer space but also towards our inner spaces, our personal universes, with Earth standing as maternal environment, point of departure, self-reference, and a reminder of our embodied human experience."
