About Chris
Many years ago (!) Chris won a foundation scholarship to study horn and piano at the Royal College of Music. Whilst a student he was winner of the horn section of the Shell/London Symphony Orchestra Young Musician Competition - a forerunner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. After a brief freelance career that included work with the London Symphony Orchestra, including playing under the baton of Andre Previn, he was appointed Principal Horn of the Ulster Orchestra at the age of 21.
During his 31 years with the Ulster Orchestra Christopher also worked as a piano accompanist, forming the Orion Duo with Ruth Bebb and appearing both on Radio 3 and Radio Ulster with a variety of artists. On an "In Tune" broadcast, he was described by Sean Rafferty as a "consummate artist". For a number of years he was also accompanist for Peter Corry.
In 2003, after a number of highly successful workshops in Special Schools he and Ricky Matson established RiChmusicNI - an organisation dedicated to delivering music lessons and workshops to children with Learning Disabilities.
Chris continues to support young musicians wherever he can playing for many exams and competitions and providing opportunities for them to perform.
