About the series:

Sanctuary in the City is a series of events curated by Emma of Thorlby Yoga, in collaboration with Castlefield Viaduct and National Trust, celebrating wellbeing, movement, community, nature and the Manchester skyline! Come and find some sanctuary at Castlefield Viaduct and join us for yoga, meditation and sound healing. Watch the sun move across the sky; morning movement as it rises, when it's at it's highest for noon for yoga and community lunch and as it sets for a relaxing sound bath and meditation.

About the Location:

The National Trust opened Castlefield Viaduct in July 2022. This was a pilot scheme to test out the views and opinions of the public on the future of the 1892 railway structure, closed since 1969.

The response has been amazing.

You have visited in your thousands, exploring its history and beauty and enjoying the 3000 plants, trees and flowers in this garden in the sky.

Many of the city’s stories are buried in and around this viaduct; more are yet to be written.

From the Romans marching in around 79AD, through to the ‘shock city’ of the industrial age and the evolving 21st century skyline -this has Manchester DNA written all over it.

We were delighted with the many ideas for events and activities that you told us that you would like us to try during this time and this events guide, running across spring into summer, reflects that wish list.

So, book onto one of the following events, bring your friends and family to visit and help us to find a permanent future for this iconic structure.
