About this Event
In this 5-day series of workshops, students will learn the ins and outs of Shakespeare’s writing before transforming his works into their own original projects. The residency will include 4 workshops each day, 9AM-12PM, for students ages 12-18. Hosted July 11th-15th, 2022.
Description: In the Sonnet Man residency, students will breakdown a scene/play from William Shakespeare and transcribe a script into music and poetry. They will study the structure and make up of Shakespeare's (Elizabethan) writing—their components, values, and meaning—as well as writing their own. They will also learn different literary devices that could be incorporated in their writings. Their writings will be transcribed into hip-hop/poetry… a mini-musical. The workshop will conclude with original adaptations and develop a mini-project written and performed by the attendees.
