THE SOLIDARITY SERIES, VOLUME 9:
DAN BRUCE AND JEREMEY POPARAD
By embracing the influence of his heroes from the jazz tradition and retaining his own musical personality, guitarist Dan Bruce has developed a unique and impressive musical voice. A recent transplant to Ohio after spending a decade as an important member of Chicagos vibrant jazz scene, he is active throughout the United States as a performer, recording artist, composer and educator. Bruces first album, A Single Thread, received praise from both fans and critics. He has performed on more than twenty-five albums as a sideman, and he has worked with a number of eminent musicians including Seamus Blake, Ali Jackson, Dan Wall, Lynn Seaton, Marvin Stamm, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Daniel Lippel, Rose Colella, and Marquis Hill. Bruces groups have been featured in The Chi-Town Jazz Festival, The Chicago Composers Collective series at the Green Mill, The Chicago Cultural Center Chamber Music Series, The Jazz Institute of Chicago NextGen Jazz Series, South by Southwest, the Toledo Jazz Festival, The Akron Jazz Festival and a special live radio broadcast on WDCB FM Chicago. Jeremey Poparad is a guitarist, bassist, composer, educator, recording engineer, and effects pedal builder in the Northeast Ohio area. He is a 2006 graduate of the University of Akron with bachelors degrees in jazz studies and music composition and a 2018 graduate of Cleveland State University with masters degrees electric guitar performance and music composition. He is currently pursuing a PhD in music theory/composition at Kent State University. As a performer, Jeremey regularly appears with jazz and rock groups as well as classical ensembles and in musical theatre pit orchestras. He performs regularly as co-principal double bass for the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, musical theatre productions at the Cleveland Playhouse, Canton Players Guild, and Porthouse Theatres, with jazz big bands such as the Skatch Anderssen Orchestra and Danjo Jazz Orchestra, the special event cover band Perfect Choice, and as a band leader with his own ensembles.
