Founded in New Jersey in 1980, The Smithereens have delivered electrifying, original rock’n’roll for 44 years. Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken, and Mike Mesaros grew up together in Carteret, while the late Pat DiNizio hailed from Scotch Plains. Cutting their teeth in NYC and NJ clubs, they went on to perform worldwide alongside Tom Petty, The Pretenders, and the Ramones, among others. With 17 albums, over 2,500 shows, and hits like “Blood and Roses,” “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” and “A Girl Like You,” they’ve sold over 5 million records and inspired generations, including Kurt Cobain. Their music has appeared on MTV, SNL, in films like Bull Durham, and in countless TV appearances, while supporting numerous charities throughout their career. After DiNizio’s passing in 2017, the band chose to continue with guest vocalists like Marshall Crenshaw and Robin Wilson. Inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2019, The Smithereens have since released COVERS, The Lost Album, and several vinyl singles, while staying active on tour and in the studio. In 2024, as they celebrate 44 years of nonstop rock, they remain as passionate and driven as ever, with a new album of original material on the way — the adventure continues!
