Brief about Sikh Soldiers:
Sikh soldiers played a significant role in both World War I and II, fighting alongside their British and Indian counterparts. Despite facing discrimination and prejudice due to their appearance and religion, Sikh soldiers demonstrated exceptional bravery, loyalty, and skill on the battlefield. In World War I, over 130,000 Sikh soldiers served in the British Indian Army, with more than 20,000 losing their lives. During World War II, Sikhs once again answered the call to duty, with over 200,000 serving in the British Indian Army. They fought in many of the major battles, including the Burma Campaign, The Gallipoli campaign alongside ANZACS, the North African Campaign, the Italian Campaign, and were known for their fearlessness, discipline, and courage under fire. Sikh soldiers received numerous awards for their bravery, including the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy. The sacrifices made by Sikh soldiers in both World Wars helped to shape the history of the world and serve as a testament to
their bravery, courage, and unwavering commitment to duty.
The Battle of Saragarhi is remembered as one of the greatest last stands in military history, and the bravery of the 21 Sikh soldiers who fought to the death has been celebrated and honoured by people around the world.
