Dream of a weekend totally dedicated to sewing your favourite things…? Welcome to the ultimate Sewing Escape!
Join Kym and Special Guest Tutor Charlotte Newland in the MAKE! The Lakes sewing studio at Moresby Hall for a weekend of sewing fun and relaxation. Bring along that project you have been wanting to get to for ages, your UFOs, and anything you would like some assistance with.
Tutors Charlotte and Kym will be on hand all weekend to share all the sewing tips… this could be dressmaking, pattern fitting, patchwork, bag making, zips, getting started on your sewing journey…. or something else!
Make yourself at home and spread out in our bright and beautiful sewing studio with your own workstation for the whole weekend – no need to tidy away between sessions, hooray!
Enjoy some Cumbrian home comforts while staying in the stunning Moresby Hall. With plenty of home cooking to keep you going throughout the weekend, what more could you want!
What is included:
Guided Sewing Sessions with experts Charlotte Newland and Kym Armstrong (Max. 8 students so lots of 1-2-1 attention).

Meet your Tutors:
Charlotte Newland is a force in the world of sewing. As the 2016 BBC Great British Sewing Bee Champion, her mastery of the craft is evident and she is also an award-winning quilter! Often referred to as the ‘sewing superhero,’ Charlotte brings infectious enthusiasm and joy to every stitch. Her teaching style is infused with humour, making the learning process an absolute delight. Charlotte is approachable, engaging, and always ready to share her wealth of knowledge.
Kym Armstrong, the visionary behind MAKE! The Lakes, has a passion for all things creative and is dedicated to sharing this with others. In 2020, Kym claimed victory in C4 Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas Stocking Competition! With an extensive repertoire of skills, Kym is a versatile tutor who brings expertise in various sewing and crafting projects. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her teaching style is nurturing and inclusive, welcoming beginners and experienced crafters alike to escape and create.
The Venue:
Moresby Hall is a Grade I listed building, described by English Heritage “of special architectural and historic importance”. Located just outside the Georgian Harbour town of Whitehaven, Moresby Hall is steeped in history and retains many original features. You will be extremely comfortable in the 5 star gold award accommodation, which includes charging points for Tesla and plug in electric cars. The spacious Fletcher Room (named after the family who lived there for 250 years and even sheltered Mary Queen of Scots prior to her imprisonment at Carlisle) will be our light and well-equipped sewing studio for the duration of the retreat. What you will need to bring:
You will need to bring your own sewing machine, if required, and materials for your project(s). Our sewing studio is well stocked with scissors, cutting mats, pins and other such tools (a list of which will be sent after booking) – however feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
Skill Level:
All levels welcome including absolute beginners. Project suggestions will be available to those who have not sewn before after booking.
Bring a non-sewing buddy:
Non-sewists tickets include everything except the sewing sessions, we can recommend adventures in the surrounding area for them whilst you are busy in the sewing studio.
Sewing Machine Hire:
Sewing machines will be available to hire for £20. Let us know after booking if you would like to hire a machine.
