Merseyrail and the Branch Line Society are delighted to announce 'The Sefton Sparkler', providing a fantastic opportunity to say a final goodbye to the Class 507 EMU which, after more than 45 years of service to the travelling public and enthusiasts alike, will soon leave the Merseyrail network for the very last time.Highlights include Southport Wall Siding, Hall Road Wall Siding, Sandhills Reversing Siding and Kirkdale EMU Depot along with the usual selection of rare track, sidings and crossovers that we have become famous for!
Comfort breaks will be provided, to use station facilities, including an extended lunch break and photo stop at Southport.
Proceeds from the trip will be donated to four very deserving local charities, supported by Merseyrail:
- Centre 56 is a domestic abuse charity in the heart of North Liverpool who provide childcare, information and support for families and children who have suffered, or are at risk of, domestic abuse or a crisis situation.
- Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, rescue and rehome animals in the Merseyside area. All animals are neutered, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms prior to homing.
- Blackburne House supports the development of local - and often vulnerable - women. With a core focus on education, the charity enables women to learn and grow in a safe environment.
- Parkinson’s Wirral offers friendship and support locally to people with Parkinson’s, their families, and carers.
Onboard, there will be an opportunity to purchase souvenirs for your special trip including window decals, and a charity raffle will give you the chance to win some fantastic prizes and further support the charities!
Not surprisingly, the traction will be a pair of Class 507s, subject of course to availability.
