This workshop will introduce you to some of the charming bumblebees and fascinating solitary bees that bring our gardens alive and pollinate our plants.Find out why our gardens are so important for pollinators. Discover how to support them by choosing powerful plants that really earn their place in the pollinator garden. Understand about bee nesting sites and insect houses. Meet some bees close-up during a bee walk around the gardens.
There will be a break for tea/coffee and cake part way through the afternoon before we head outside to meet some of the bees close-up around the garden. With a little understanding of the needs of your garden bees, you can make powerful plant and gardening choices to transform your plot into a truely bee-friendly, pollinator paradise.
Please note this event does not focus on honeybees.
Jean Vernon graduated with a degree in Botany from Nottingham University. She has a passion for bees and pollinators and has led a number of bee safaris and walks/talks at Jekka’s Herb Farm, Yeo Valley Organic Gardens and others, including a similar session at RHS Wisley. Jean is the author of two books – The Secret Lives of Garden Bees and Attracting Garden Pollinators.
