“Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear…”
The Sea The Sea is an indie folk-pop duo-band, merging the lyrical integrity of your favorite modern day troubadours with creative, vibrant arrangements and stunning harmonies, featuring what Huffington Post calls, “Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear this or any other year.”
Chuck E. Costa is a native New Yorker, born and raised on Staten Island. After earning a degree in Philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder, he lived and worked on the shoreline of Connecticut for the next ten years. During that time Chuck recorded four studio albums and toured the national club and festival circuit as a solo singer/songwriter garnering awards and accolades along the way. In 2011, Chuck was appointed the Connecticut State Troubadour--the ambassador of song for the state.
Mira Stanley Costa grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of a musician and visual artist. She fell in love with the arts at an early age, and spent summers pursuing dance, theater, and visual arts at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and musical theater at Ann Reinking's Broadway Theatre Project. She attended the Boston Conservatory, interned with theater companies in New York City, and received a Theatre Arts degree from the University of Michigan. At UM she became involved with the Prison Creative Arts Project, an organization that aims to bring the arts to all places where it is absent or has been removed. This allowed her to co-facilitate workshops in creative writing at a women's prison, as well as improvisational theater workshops in Detroit Public High Schools, where she also created plays with students with autism.
Chuck and Mira first met at a festival in Shepherdstown, WV. Sitting at a picnic table in the middle of a field, they decided to work on an arrangement of a song for a group sing the following day. They felt an instant connection through their singing. Eventually, they formed their acclaimed indie-folk duo The Sea The Sea, and they excitedly combined their backgrounds in different workshops to establish CT Sings: Stories from the Constitution State, a songwriting/recording project featuring Connecticut-inspired songs written and performed with children in Connecticut.
The group’s 2020 release, Stumbling Home, dubbed “otherworldly” by Rolling Stone marks the duo’s third full-length album. Previous releases—Love We Are We Love (2014), In the Altogether (EP, 2016), and From The Light (2018)—have been praised by outlets including NPR, American Songwriter, and No Depression.
"Defined by their infallible vocal harmonies and their unconventional song arrangements." --Audiotree
“Two of the loveliest male-female voices you might ever hear this or any other year. If Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello had ever decided back in the day to write, sing and make a duets record together, it might’ve sounded something like this.” --Huffington Post
“The Sea The Sea are ready to take their place among the best young male/female duos now performing. Their sound and their songs are a perfect match of emotional strength and delicate beauty.” --Larry Groce, NPR’s Mountain Stage
