About this Event
On 03 November 2005, the then First Minister of Scotland, Jack McConnell and HE Prof. Bingu wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, signed an historic co-operation agreement between Scotland and Malawi.
The signing was followed by a landmark conference in the Scottish Parliament (4-5 November 2005) that examined Malawi as a case study for the Commission for Africa, following the G8 summit at Gleneagles in July 2005. Here with the report.
In the same year, the Scotland Malawi Partnership and its sister organisation the Malawi and Scotland Partnership were established. To mark this significant milestone in the friendship between our two countries that stretches back 160 years, Rt Hon. Lord Jack McConnell will give a lecture on St Andrews Day, titled: People to People: A development partnership for the 21st century.
