This four-day masterclass explores the science of sounds as a living field between physical law, perceptual experience, and human practice.
Sound is approached not as belief or abstraction, but as a measurable, experiential, and relational phenomenon that shapes physiology, consciousness, communication, and culture.
At the core of the training lies a practical understanding of how sound functions: as vibration, rhythm, resonance, and proportion. Participants investigate how frequencies interact with the human nervous system, emotional states, spatial perception, and group dynamics. Scientific insights into rhythm, coherence, and natural harmonic systems are combined with embodied listening and direct musical practice.
The course integrates experiential sound work, refined auditory perception, and physical grounding exercises. Knowledge is transmitted through practice rather than solely through theory, allowing participants to experience how sound organizes attention, energy, and awareness. Traditional wisdom is treated as an empirical heritage—tested, contextualized, and translated into contemporary applications.
A central instrument of the training is the gong. Its rich overtone spectrum and temporal depth make it an ideal medium for exploring non-linear musical structures and layered perception. Gong practice becomes a laboratory for understanding multidimensional sound fields and their psychological and somatic effects.
In this year’s training, Jens places an additional focus on crystal singing bowls, exploring their distinct tonal clarity and their remarkable capacity to generate coherence and subtle resonance within contemporary sound music practice.
The Cosmic Octave serves as a scientific and artistic reference system throughout the masterclass. It offers insight into natural frequency relationships, biological rhythms, and planetary cycles, supporting a deeper understanding of sound as a universal organizing principle across nature and human life.
As part of this exploration, the workshop introduces the current development stage of the Time Freq software—a practical tool for working with the order frequencies of life and natural systems. Participants engage with real-time vibrational data of our solar system and explore how astronomical cycles relate to individual temporal and biographical constellations. This includes an experiential investigation of personal birth-time frequencies and their translation into sound structures that reflect rhythm, phase, and resonance throughout a human lifespan.
In addition to artistic and therapeutic skills, the training addresses professional integration. Participants receive guidance on clarifying their personal profile, articulating their work, and developing sustainable formats for sharing sound-based practices in contemporary contexts.
This masterclass is designed for practitioners, artists, and researchers who wish to deepen their understanding of sound as both a scientific phenomenon and a transformative human medium—within an international, focused, and collaborative learning environment.
Jens Zygar is an internationally active sound musician, educator, and artistic researcher whose work focuses on sound as a performative and cosmological medium. In close collaboration with physicist Hans Cousto, he contributed to the development of Planetary Gongs, translating planetary frequency principles into performable acoustic instruments. He co-founded the Star Sounds Orchestra, the first ensemble to consistently apply the principles of the Cosmic Octave within an international concert and festival context. His work integrates artistic research, embodied performance practice, and sound-based education into a coherent contemporary approach to sound music.
“The science of the Cosmic Octave reveals frequency as a living order that shapes matter, time, and awareness. Through sound, this order becomes audible, experiential, and applicable—connecting planetary motion, biological rhythm, and human creativity within one coherent field of resonance.”
