Tuition: $125Prerequisite: "Five Minutes to Funny" class or at least 6 months of stand-up performance at open mics. Participants also must present proof of vaccination (such as a completed vaccination card) at the start of the class.
A three-hour class, "The Science of Joke Writing" starts with some of the fundamentals of stand-up comedy -- what makes people laugh, the skills required to be a comic, different interpretations of comedy -- before diving into joke structure, various approaches to the joke-creation process, and a number of writing techniques to streamline your jokes and help them stand out. Instructor Robert Mac brings 25-plus years of stand-up and writing experience and all the insights he’s gathered over that time, from the mundane to the monumental. Robert has worked professionally in comedy clubs, on cruise ships and at colleges. He's the Grand Prize winner of Comedy Central’s national stand-up competition (Laugh Riots), he has two specials on Dry Bar Comedy, and he has appeared in numerous competitions and festivals, including "Last Comic Standing," Just for Laughs in Montreal and more.
