Does a heart attack start with diet or does it start when you're a foetus? Do many diseases have their origins before we even enter the worl
About this Event

Dutch babies born to women who were pregnant and starved during famine in 1944-1945 had long-lasting effects on their development. As babies grew into adults they had higher rates of heart disease and obesity. We are understanding more about how many adult diseases can actually start during foetal growth. The conditions of conception, pregnancy, and infancy can set the path for heart disease, cancer, obesity, and others to form during adulthood. Can the environment you experience as a foetus create the early origins of health and disease as an adult?

The principal goal of SciPubAdelaide is to make science engaging and accessible to the public. Each panel consists of three experts who deliver 10-15 minute presentations on their area and then open up to questions from the audience via a moderator. Panellists are selected primarily on their ability to effectively communicate science in an engaging and non-technical manner. SciPubAdelaide is held in a pub so that scientists, aspiring scientists, and non-scientists can learn, discuss and think critically about hot topics in science.

We will be delighted to see you there!
