The Saw Doctors, who are celebrating 35 years on the road as a touring band, will release a brand new EP, Wha’D’Ya Think A That, on Friday November 1st. The five track EP, produced by Philip Tennant in Grouse Lodge Studios, includes the Galway band’s recent singles, Man in The Moon and I Love To Go Awanderin’.
Discovered by Mike Scott of The Waterboys on a stormy Tuesday night in the Quay’s Bar, Galway in the late 1980s, The Saw Doctors grew quickly, touring around Ireland and the UK, including a six-week stint with The Waterboys on the Fisherman’s Blues tour in 1989. The Saw Doctors second single, ‘I Useta Lover’ was a surprise Number One hit in Ireland in 1990, remaining top of the charts for nine weeks, going on to become the biggest selling Irish single ever. The Galway band’s debut album ‘If This Is Rock ’n’ Roll, I Want My Old Job Back which includes the anthemic song ’N17’ has sold a half-a-million copies world-wide.
The Saw Doctors are powered by the band's core songwriting duo, Davy Carton (lead vocals) and Leo Moran (electric guitar) and recently welcomed back one of their founding band members Pearse Doherty on bass guitar, vocals, penny whistle and wooden flute. The eight man lineup features longtime members Rickie O’Neill (drums), Kieran Duddy (keyboards and accordion) and Tommy Carton (backing vocals) as well as acclaimed sidemen, Anthony Thistlethwaite (saxophone, formerly of The Waterboys) and Noelie McDonnell (guitar and backing vocals, The Whileaways).
The Saw Doctors have just finished a three month summer tour that included outdoor shows in Belfast at Custom House Square, Manchester at Castlefield Bowl and Glasgow at Kelvingrove Park with pit stops along the way in Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Boston, Chicago as well as two hometown gigs at the Galway Arts Festival Big Top in July.
Carrying the torch of resilience and brimming with infectious energy, The Saw Doctors will kick off a major UK winter tour in London at the famous Hammersmith Apollo on Halloween night, October 31 before playing sell out gigs in Liverpool, Leeds and two shows at the famous Barrowland venue in Glasgow before Christmas.
"The Saw Doctors offer wistfulness, humour and small-town nostalgia.” New York Times
“If they could bottle the sort of Bonhomie that make and entire concert hall feel better, The Saw Doctors would have the medicine show to end them all.” The Times
