In this workshop, we'll explore how our religious upbringings and cultural faith narratives shape the way we build characters, especially those who crave salvation or want to play savior themselves. Through excerpts, discussion, and prompts, we’ll write toward freedom from inherited mythologies and see what stories live on the other side of redemption. This session unpacks how belief systems shape our characters’ moral centers, motivations, and flaws. We’ll explore savior complexes, redemption arcs, and what happens when we let our characters save themselves. By the end of this workshop, participants will uncover how belief, guilt, and grace shape their storytelling, and write characters who save themselves instead.
