About this Event
The San Pedro Allstars Live at Groove | Saturday, January 25, 2025 | 7PM Show, 6PM Doors
The San Pedro Allstars are a band born from a place — a "super-group" that assembled thanks to a monthly residency at The San Pedro Inn — a glorious dive-bar by the water in Red Hook, Brooklyn. But don't let this geography fool you — The San Pedro Allstars are, as you'll soon hear, a predominantly southern-soul band. Slide guitarist and vocalist Reed Turchi comes from Swannanoa, North Carolina, via Memphis and Nashville, bassist Austin White studies in the avant-garde NYC jazz-scene, but like many great jazz musicians, is rooted in upstate South Carolina, and drummer Marlon Patton found his way from another hot-bed of soul — the Peach State of Georgia. Fittingly, it's the exploratory, interstellar-yet-rooted rhythm & lead guitar that comes from Eric Burns (an Arizonan now in Brooklyn) that expands the sound of the trio. This sonic geography because it's what makes The San Pedro Allstarsdistinct — their own personal landscapes mapped as music they love. There's the Meters-meets-Booker-T instrumentals "Stress N Grits" (a play on "shrimp and grits," big city style) and "Ayahuasca Old Fashioned" (named after a mis-name of the San Pedro Inn's house-beverage) — and there's also the North Mississippi Blues of Going Down South (RL Burnside) and All Night Long (Junior Kimbrough), as well as the desert-blues styled take on "Special Rider."
