About this Event
The Sam Chase looks like he belongs at the Crazy Horse Saloon. This fire-breathing singer/guitarist from San Francisco keeps gravitating back, again and again. This will be the first time in years he’s bringing his full seven-piece band – The Untraditional. Their sound is a real stunner, like something you’d hear screaming from the cool bar on the other side of the tracks. Breathe in the thick air woven with tapestries of Americana rock, indie folk, deeply soulful blues and Celtic-infused magic. Sam’s songwriting lays his heart on the table and welcomes audiences into a collective space of release. When absorbing the power of these songs, you might as well be receiving the gospel.
“I love Sam Chase. He’s got mischievous eyes and a booming voice. He’s a clever songsmith and a dazzling performer. He was born in the punk scene and raised on the back of Merle Haggard and John Prine and was given dollops of Woody Guthrie in his oatmeal. He’s sensitive and gruff at the same time in equal doses. I call him sensigruff.
His voice is so powerful he could’ve cut through the noise on the floor of The New York Stock Exchange in the height of the 80s. Everyone would’ve just shut their pie-holes and listened to what the man had to say. Sam Chase is an American original and a welcome card-carrying member of the united family of songwriting troubadours. God bless you Sam Chase.” – Steve Poltz
Ginger Molasses is a five-piece "thrift store rock" band based in Nevada City, California, blending the soul and grit of early '70s bangers with a contemporary edge.Their sound recalls flipping through your cool uncle’s record bin in thegarage, discovering albums you never knew existed, but, once unearthed, feelcompletely essential.
At the helm is wild child Tawnee Kendall, who has been described as “lightning in a bottle, unleashed.” If Bowie and the Wilson sisters from Heart had a kid, it might be Kendall, as she blends searing rock vocals with a theatrical performance style shimmering with sparkles and fringe.
Ginger Molasses turns every performance into a dance party withtheir dynamic range of material, from sultry grooves reminiscent of Rumors-eraFleetwood Mac, to up-tempo soul-jams that recall Ike and Tina Turner, LittleFeat, and Joe Cocker. The band has been electrifying stages across NorthernCalifornia, sharing bills with bands like Boot Juice, Gold Souls, and DeadWinter Carpenters at iconic venues such as Bottom of the Hill (SF), Boom BoomRoom (SF), Miner’s Foundry (Nevada City), and Truckee’s Music in the Park.
With their whimsical, at times absurdist, approach to lyrics and marketing, the band continues to build an engaged community of fans across its media platforms, bringing the party wherever they touch down. So bust out those perfect vintage bell bottoms youscored at the Goodwill, and get ready to cut a (shag) rug.
