THE RVMES + OTIUM: Live at The StablesHigh-Energy in the Matakana Heat
Auckland four-piece The RVMES (pronounced “The Rooms”) have been carving out their place in the NZ live scene since 2018. This January they roll into Matakana following their nationwide headline tour and the release of their fourth album Boundary Issues. Their set is distinctly their own and can set the stage on fire - moving between alt rock, funk, groove and reggae with sharp musicianship and unstoppable drive.
The RVMES have recently signed to AAA Records, home to Troy Kingi, French For Rabbits, Mons Whaler and more, and have opened for Kiwi acts Black Comet, Strangely Arousing and Tadpole, adding to a strong run of shows that’s helped cement their reputation as one of the country’s most reliable and up and coming live bands.
Joining them is Whangārei’s based band Otium bringing a blend of funk, soul and reggae shaped by strong harmonies and tight rhythm work. Their self-titled debut EP arrived in 2017, followed by a run of singles that pushed their style forward and helped cement their reputation as a live band with real range. They’ve played sold out headline shows around the country and completed their first national tour in 2018 with support from Creative New Zealand. Along the way they’ve shared stages with Sons of Zion, Cornerstone Roots and Ocean Alley, and appeared at festivals including Soundsplash, Fritter Festival and Bay of Islands Festival.
This is going to be a night of straight up fun. Come hang out in the gardens as the sun sets, and get your party pants on for a night of uplifting, funky, fun music that's going to absolutely rock Matakana. Let's start off in 2026 with a BANG!
