Back in the mid-eighties, a one-of-a-kind nightclub opened in West Melbourne. A club dedicated to sixties music from the Beatles to the Stones to the Doors and even a bit of Led Zeppelin.Adding a touch of soul and Motown made for an intoxicating mix that put Rubber Soul firmly on the map with crowds on Friday nights stretched around the block. Started by the late Ronny Williams and Michael Phillips who had previously run the legendary Batcave and Venetian Room and with Rob Griffiths on the decks The Rubber Soul was a breath of fresh air on the Melbourne scene.
In a club licensed for 150 some nights they managed to fit 800 people through the door. These were of course the legendary Doors specials. Each month a particular band was highlighted but the Doors nights went through the roof. Where else in Melbourne would you hear LA Woman?
So for one night we’re bringing it all back to Odeon Richmond for a night of psychedelia, soul, beat and rock and roll. Come along and join us and have some real fun. The original door girl will be on the door to greet you and Rob Griffiths and Michael Phillips will be spinning the discs along with special guests.
