Brooklyn-based five-piece RT’sare known for their eclectic take on rock n’roll, which mixes punk rock energy, horn-drenched soul, and precise musicianship with a lighthearted but sincere delivery. It’s a sound and approach that has come sharply into focus on the band’s latest release, See You Again, out now onWombat Squad Records. The album, which builds off tracks initially released in May 2020 as the99 in October, was produced and mixed by Chris Peck, engineered by Reed Black, and mastered byJ3P0. The new additions consist of the title track “See You Again,” the
aforementioned“Overtime,” a rollicking tune about the optimism and naivety of being young titled“Freewheelin,’” and an instrumental called “More Barn.” Says the composer of “MoreBarn,” Patrick Sargent(saxophone/keys/vocals),“It’s as close to playing jazz as we RadTradsget these days and it feels pretty damn good, like stepping into a vortex whereCootie Williams from the Ellington band is soloing over Wu-Tang beat and everything’s oddly right in the world.”The band spent the majority of 2019 touring in support of their sophomore release on tap—a world tour that totaled over 80,000 miles and included shows in direct support of Dr. Dog, Modest Mouse, Lake Street Dive, BAILEN, and The Motet, with dates in China, Europe, and across the USA from Alaska to Florida.
Along the way, they began writing and performing new material, and the folkiness of their last release began to morph into the hard-edged, anthemic, and frequently poppy sound ofSee You Again. See You Again was recorded along with 9 other songs in late February 2020 at VinegarHillSound in Brooklyn, New York. “The goal going into the studio was to capture the sound and energy of the band as you would experience it live. When we listened back a few months later it became clear that the songs we had played live prior to recording had a very different energy than the ones we hadn’t, and that in fact they fit best with the songs on the EP we had just released.”Sargent reflected.“From our current vantage point, the album feels like a nostalgic snapshot of that moment right before everything changed, of sweaty rock clubs and well tequila sodas, of showing up at 4 pm for soundcheck and leaving at 4 AM after the last call because the energy of human exchange that comes from a rock concert will keep you up all night if you let it.
This album is a love letter to all that, and to everyone who shared it with us, and to everyone who ever said,“Where can I listen to these songs!?!,” and to everyone who missed the show but will be at the next one. We cant wait to “See You Again”--we really can’t--but, until then, here’s this: an album that feels like the last great night we all spent together and will hold you over until the next one.
