A guided tasting of the tantalizing tipples produced from Saccharum Officinarum!With a history as rich as its flavor, rum has often been associated as the drink of choice for many a malefactor since time immemorial. Thankfully, it has since transformed its image into being one of the world’s most popular and diverse spirit categories. Strap yourself in as we take you on a journey through the history of “Rumbullion.”
During this in-depth course, attendees will taste through a flight of thirteen distinct styles of Rum - including English-style, Jamaican, Spanish-style, Demerara, Agricole, Cachaça, and more - while learning about their origins, what makes each style and sub-category unique, and how each has evolved over the centuries.
In addition to learning about each spirit, attendees will receive instruction on the fundamentals of nosing and tasting spirits, discussing the predominant flavor characteristics of each style, their unique nuances, and what to look for in sugar cane spirits of superior quality. At the end of the course, you’ll feel like a certified Rum connoisseur!

- The rich history of Rum, from its creation, to its disreputable past, its resurgence in the New World, to eventually becoming one of the world’s most popular and diverse spirits.
- The many unique ways in which R(h)um is produced around the globe.
- The predominant styles and subcategories of Rum, and the trademark qualities that make each distinct.
- How to properly taste and identify the subtle nuances amongst styles.
Attendees must be 21 years of age. Class promptly begins at 12pm and concludes at 2:30pm. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at the beginning of the course. Guests are encouraged to stay after the course concludes to enjoy our Sunday Happy Hour service at 3pm!
