About this Event
This event is hosted by the Jesus College Environmental Sustainability Working Group.
We are in the midst of a coupled climate and biodiversity crisis. Biodiversity often plays second fiddle to increasing carbon dioxide levels, yet ecosystem scientists argue that our civilisation is critically dependent on biodiversity and that it also has the potential to play a very significant role in helping mitigate the negative effects of climate change.
Are these claims justified, or are biodiversity researchers trying to jump on the coat tails of climate scientists to secure funding for their field? Humans have impacted biodiversity and changed ecosystems ever since we evolved, yet we have thrived. Why should we care about biodiversity now? Join three champions of biodiversity in a panel discussion as they defend our need to protect ecosystems and the environment from questions from a sceptical chairperson.
