The North Korean artist Song Byeok is visiting Bergen and the Raftohouse. The former propaganda painter once served the Democratic People´s Republic of North Korea, but later succeeded in escaping. Having personally experienced the most extreme and cruel forms of repression applied by the authorities, Sogn Byeok now uses his artistic talent to criticize the leadership and ideology of his homeland.
This special event provides an extraordinary opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of life under the North Korean regime, while also exploring the powerful role of art in political expression and resistance.
Join us for a unique conversation between Song Byeok, Professor Lise Rakner, and Associate Professor Esther Song from the University of Bergen´s Department of Government.
