Doors 4:30pm. Performance 5pm to 7pm.A slightly salty Mumford & Sons
The Rogue Shanty Buoys are based (and home-brewed) in rural East Anglia and were described fRoots magazine as “Guardians of the old songs, delivered with captivating authority.”
They sing Sea Shanties with an unmistakably bold and original sound and an emphasis on strong vocals, tight harmonies and unfussy arrangements, giving fun and energetic performances with a fresh and dynamic approach to folk music that has seen them described as “A slightly salty Mumford & Sons”.
With a hugely diverse repertoire, ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day, The Rogue Shanty Buoys are as at home singing rousing traditional sea shanties such as ‘The Wellerman’, ‘Drunken Sailor’ and many more, whaling arias and tunes of ne’er-do-wells as they are covering contemporary songs and ’90s classics by the likes of The Spice Girls, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears and others performed with their own unique “shanty” twist.
The event is being held on the first floor of the Southern Maltings building. Please check with the event organisers if using stairs is problematic. Southern Maltings is the trading name of Ware Arts Centre Limited and is a registered charity (Registered charity no. 276998). All events are run by volunteers and proceeds go towards developing the Southern Maltings into an amazing creative arts centre which will enable us to put on a wider and more frequent range of events and activities for the whole community.
