$35The Road to Tangier. A Satirist's Journey
Performed by Bryan Dawe
Bryan Dawe's multi-media 'The Road to Tangier' takes you on a humorous and insightful personal journey of discovery and a great love of the Arab culture.
After his numerous travels through Western and Eastern Europe, Bryan led a group of twelve friends on a massive 60 hour train journey that carried them from Vienna via Hungary, Poland and Romania to Turkey, culminating in a guided, small bus tour around Syria and Jordan.
He repeated the Syrian and Jordanian tours with two further groups in the following two years.
Two weeks after the last tour, the civil war broke out in Syria and he was unable to return.
It was three years later, during one of his annual house-sits in Fez, Morocco, in North Africa, looking after an Australian friends Riad, that he discovered his love of Tangier.
During his talk we hear about Tangier wonderful characters the writers, the artists, the spies, the crooks the crazy and the ex-pat filthy rich all of whom inhabited and still inhabit this city of storytellers who made and still make Tangier a city like no other.
