The Road to Everywhere Road Show Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 pm, the Community Concert Hall hosts the Road to Everywhere Road Show—a one-of-a-kind evening combining the new independent film Road to Everywhere with a live concert by two-time Grammy winner Robert Mirabal.
Take a journey through the world of independent film that started nearly thirty years ago. In the mid-1990s, critics on the early internet were discovering new voices in cinema, including American filmmaker Michael Paradies Shoob, whose debut feature Driven (1996) premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Although the film received praise for its authenticity and honest storytelling, distribution challenges prevented it from gaining broader recognition.
Shoob now returns with Road to Everywhere (2024), a highly anticipated continuation of the story started in Driven. While it revisits characters first introduced in 1996—cab driver Jason Schuyler (Whip Hubley), Rachel Schuyler (Diane DiLascio), Dale Schneider (Daniel Roebuck), and “Soup” (Rawle D. Lewis)—the new film stands on its own, exploring themes of resilience, connection, and belonging.
Set mainly in the Navajo Nation, Road to Everywhere follows an aging cab driver (Hubley) hired by Jake, a Native American gambler and casino executive played by Robert Mirabal (Taos Pueblo), to drive him across the Southwest to meet his grandson for the first time. The film combines contemporary storytelling with echoes of Shoob’s earlier work, creating a road movie that is both intimate and expansive.
Mirabal—already celebrated worldwide as a two-time Grammy Award–winning musician, composer, and visual artist—takes on his first major leading film role. Known for his charismatic stage presence and rich artistry, Mirabal brings depth and humanity to Jake while continuing to share his talents as a performer.
