As part of our Beyond the Battle project, curator Arran Johnston investigates the Jacobite army’s flanking march before the dawn on 21 September 1745. The march, guided by local knowlege and passing through what is now the new town of Blindwells, contributed significantly to the Jacobite victory at Prestonpans. But it was also a considerable tactical risk.
Arran's talk will use contemporary maps and accounts to investigate how the decision came about, the route the Jacobites might have taken, and the experience of undertaking the operation.
