The march, guided by local knowlege and passing through what is now the new town of Blindwells, contributed significantly to the Jacobite victory at Prestonpans. But it was also a considerable tactical risk.
Arran's talk will use contemporary maps and accounts to investigate how the decision came about, the route the Jacobites might have taken, and the experience of undertaking the operation.
