The Revolutionists is a feisty, feminist comedy about a quartet of women fighting to keep their heads as a once-hopeful revolution for freedom and equality descends into bloody violence during the Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges (Sarah Myers) struggles to focus and write a play that says “something… profound,” but her efforts are derailed by visitors Charlotte Corday (Reagan Jay), the fiery assassin seeking last words worthy of history, and Marie Antoinette (Michaela Love-Lantz), the dethroned queen desperate for a reputation makeover. Marianne Angelle (Lee Brown), a rebel and spy based on a composite of real Haitian freedom fighters, is the fourth – and most levelheaded – member of the quartet.Marrying sharp humor with powerful storytelling, The Revolutionists holds plenty of appeal for lovers of theatre, history, and unapologetically bold women.
