About this Event
In celebration of Black August, a time to commemorate the lives and deaths of Black political prisoners, The Gathering is hosting a 3-hour workshop to honor four of the most revolutionary women of the Black Panther Party – Ericka Huggins, Elaine Brown, Angela Davis, and Assata Shakur.
While there’s a plethora of emphasis on Black male political prisoners, I aim to bring balance to the narrative by focusing solely on our sisters. In these 3 hours, we’ll be learning about and discussing what led them to join (and leave) the Black Panther Party, the conditions of their imprisonment, their methods of resistance, and the legacies they left for us to follow as their political and literary descendants.
