A very warm welcome back!!!
The Tube Bar is an independent DJ vinyl revival club which first operated in a number of Leicester venues between 1994 and 2005. Now after over 20 years it is back for another run at its spiritual home the International on Garden Street.
The Tube Bar grew out of a fusion of two DIY nights, Razzle! and the Beat Hotel held upstairs at the old Princess Charlotte. Until the 1990s clubs tended to focus on one sub-culture or musical fashion - there were Punk or Goth nights, Motown or Northern Soul nights, Reggae or Ska nights, Brit-pop or Mod Nights or Rock nights or Madchester nights or Dance nights etc. The Tube Bar puts all those styles into a big bag, shakes them around and spins them out. It might seem quite normal now - but in the early 1990s it was quite a radical approach. One punter described the early Tube Bar as “part night club - part holiday camp.”
What makes the Tube Bar different is the complete freedom to explore music from the fringes and blend it with more popular songs and artists. It’s easy to fill a dance floor playing Oasis - much tougher but more fun to fill it by playing the B Side of a long forgotten 7” single from 1958. And if only two people dance it’s not important because the next song will be a dance floor filler - and those two people will go home going “you’ll never guess what we danced to last night!”
No two nights at the Tube Bar are ever the same. We have our musical favourites but there are 1000s of records out there and so many artists. If you’ve never had the opportunity before, come on down and sample the unique atmosphere and musical cocktail of sounds. If you were a regular back in the old days - welcome back. We all love the International and it will be a complete pleasure and honour to be there. Hopefully Rocket Ron will be smiling down and blessing us all!
