About this Event

This class is being offered in partnership with the Senior Enrichment Center of Lee County for older adults.

Class 1: The Blueprint (January)
Laying the Foundation for Food Security

The Resilience Garden begins here. Every successful year-round food supply starts with a solid plan, not a shovel. Join us for this foundational session where we will establish the definitive "blueprint" for your 2026 gardening and preservation goals.

This class is designed to move you from hopeful planting to intentional production, ensuring every seed you sow contributes directly to your long-term pantry goals, guided by the three core pillars of the Resilience Garden: Design, Cultivate, and Preserve.

What You Will Learn in The Blueprint:
  • Define Your Goals: Move beyond simple gardening to strategic, purpose-driven planting. How much do you need to grow to feed your family for a year?
  • Design & Planning Essentials: Mastering the logistics of space—both for growing (sun maps, vertical gardening, raised beds) and for long-term storage (pantry layout, preservation zones).
  • The Foundation of Success (Soil & Sun): Understanding your unique growing environment and creating the optimal soil conditions from the very start.
  • Seeds & Selection: Which specific varieties are best for fresh eating and reliable preservation (canning, dehydrating)? Learn to select for resilience.
  • Previewing Preservation Options: A high-level overview of canning, dehydrating, and freezing. This information allows you to plan your garden layout now to accommodate the crops you'll need for your chosen preservation methods later in the year.

Don't wait until spring to start planning! This is the crucial first step to ensuring your garden is a dependable source of food, not just a hobby.
