The Requiem Project is a community built memorial to honor those that have passed away, developed by Bay Area artist Tina Rath.
About this Event

The REQUIEM Project is a community-built memorial honoring those who have died from the COVID-19 pandemic. Developed by Bay Area artist Tina Rath, the project provides a necessary opportunity for people to come together with purpose and remember the deceased.

The memorial consists of large-scale drawings of circles in golden ink. Each circle represents one person who died due to COVID-19. Gold is chosen because all people illuminate long after their physical death. On and within each circle, names of those who died from COVID are written. Each person's circle is unique, like a fingerprint, and the names are often embellished with hearts, nicknames, and small ornamentations.

The finished drawings are rich, golden tapestries that express the collective, diverse, and inclusive nature of The REQUIEM Project. Attendees are not required to know someone who passed from COVID; the project offers an open invitation for participants to sit with loss and mourning in whatever capacity it manifests in their lives.

Prepared paper panels will be provided, on which guests are invited to paint circles—a methodical and meditative process.

This event is free and open to the public, but we ask that you RSVP in advance.
