On Wednesday, September 24th The REEL Underground presents a screening of the rarely seen 1981 documentary about the making of Elvis Costello’s “Almost Blue” album. The film captures Costello in his first musical departure as he and the Attractions journey to Nashville to record classic country songs with legendary producer Billy Sherrill. The documentary features interviews with Costello and Sherrill, includes studio and live performances by Costello and the Attractions, and offers a glimpse of music row and the Lower Broadway honky-tonks of “old Nashville” long before bicycle-bars, bachelorette parties, line dancing, and pop country turned it into Nash-Vegas. It’s a must see for Costello fans and classic country fans alike. Following the screening, Phil Angotti will be playing a set of Elvis Costello songs. And, of course, DJ Louie B will kick off the night spinning Costello music. Put on a skinny tie or a bolo tie and join us for some new wave & old country in the middle of the working week.
NOTE: There are a few tables and bar stools available at the Montrose Saloon, but attendees of the previous shows have filled those up early. So for your comfort and enjoyment YOU ARE WELCOME TO BRING FOLDING OR CAMPING CHAIRS to use during the film screening, but chairs need to be packed up and removed from the Saloon immediately after the film for the music set. (You can stash them outside on the patio during the music set)
