$30Comedy, music, cabaret, poetry and the chance to have a worldwide impact for equality!
Trans Justice Canberra, a group under Trans Justice Australia, is furthering the cause of equality for trans and gender-diverse people in Australia. They are inviting all of Canberra to a night of exciting and heartfelt queer arts performance and are excited to present the community with a chance to take an active role in saving the lives of those in less fortunate circumstances. A majority portion of ticket sales will go to Rainbow Railroad, and all guests will be able to enter raffles and silent auctions for amazing prizes sourced from our wonderfully talented, local, queer artists.
We wouldn't blame you for avoiding the news lately, but recent world events have political leaders scapegoating and demonizing minorities to distract from and excuse their own incompetence and bigotry. Queer folk the world over are suffering; but here in Canberra, we are blessed with a semblance of equality that most in the world only dream of. Rainbow Railroad is a charity that helps people the world over afford to escape the violence, demonization and dehumanizing abuse of governments and corporations.
Your MC for the evening, Catherine-Roisin “Tomboko” Ladelle, is herself a rainbow refugee from the United States. She will be facilitating this evening of powerful art and presenting her own story of fleeing a place most consider ‘good’. She hopes to make clear just how bad things can become in even the most advanced countries; if minority groups are without the allyship of their local communities. Trans Justice Canberra and Smith's Alternative welcome you to what might be Canberra's most impactful show of the New Year!
