POP-UP UNIVERSITY PRESENTS:
"The Psychoanalytic Therapist: Using Depth, Insight, and the Relationship to Heal Developmental Trauma"

ABOUT THE TALK:
People who experience early childhood neglect, abuse, and abandonment develop patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating that may have been adaptive in the moment but no longer work as adults. Their lives become a contradictory mystery to themselves. They return to abusive partners, sabotage their successes, say “yes” when they want to say “no,” and behave in ways that are in opposition to the changes they wish to make. In this talk, I will use contemporary psychoanalytic theory to describe an in-depth, insight and relationship-oriented therapeutic process that fosters self-activation, awareness, esteem, and healthy attachment.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Kurt M. Hanus, PsyD, is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Indiana University South Bend and a Chicago-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist. He founded the Michiana Association of Psychoanalytic Studies (MAPS) and is a national co-leader for Academics for the Advancement of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (A2P2). He completed postgraduate certification and training from the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New York City and the Center for Religion & Psychotherapy of Chicago. He has extensive experience in K-12 and university settings and is particularly interested in teaching psychoanalytic theory, process, and technique to a new generation of therapists.
