About this Event
The World Bank Group's regular five-yearly Shareholding Reviews are key to its governance, designed to enhance the representation of developing countries.
The first review in 2010 led to reforms increasing developing nations' influence, including more voting power and a new Board seat for Africa. The 2015 review established guiding principles for future reviews, aiming for a balanced voting power.
The Fourth Shareholding Review in 2025 – coinciding with global efforts to strengthen the voice of emerging and underrepresented countries and the 80th anniversary of the Bretton Woods Institutions – presents an opportunity to address new global risks and adjust governance to better reflect evolving economic dynamics.
This joint Deep Dive hosted by the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research and the World Bank will explore past review outcomes, milestones and shareholding modeling for future reforms, led by a senior World Bank expert in the Corporate Secretariat responsible for modelling shareholding options for the Bank’s shareholders.
