Detroit, MI — Award-winning jazz vocalist and cultural arts leader Sky Covington, founder of The Preservation of Jazz, proudly announces the launch of the Preservation of Jazz Summer Celebration, taking place Sunday, July 26th from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This vibrant outdoor gathering will bring together musicians, vocalists, poets, vendors, and families for a full day dedicated to celebrating the legacy and future of jazz.
The Preservation of Jazz Summer Celebration is more than a musical event—it is a cultural movement designed to uplift the community while creating opportunities for the next generation of artists.
The celebration will feature live jazz music throughout the day, showcasing talented musicians and vocalists alongside spoken word artists and poets. Attendees will enjoy a festive atmosphere with local food vendors, arts and crafts, games, and a marketplace of small and minority-owned businesses.
At the heart of the celebration is a mission to support youth in the arts. A portion of the event’s proceeds will help fund scholarships for young musicians, vocalists, and poets who are pursuing their artistic dreams. These scholarships will provide support for lessons, mentorship, and educational opportunities that help cultivate the next generation of cultural leaders.
“The Preservation of Jazz has always been about honoring our musical ancestors while investing in the future,” says Sky Covington. “This celebration allows us to bring the community together through music while creating real opportunities for young artists who are ready to carry the legacy forward.”
The event will also highlight the importance of jazz as a foundational cultural art form that continues to inspire creativity, storytelling, and community connection.
Vendors, musicians, vocalists, and poets are invited to participate in this inaugural celebration.
The Preservation of Jazz platform, founded by Sky Covington, has become a respected cultural initiative dedicated to preserving jazz history while creating performance opportunities for artists and cultural education within the community.
The Preservation of Jazz Summer Celebration is expected to become an annual event that continues to expand its community impact year after year.
