About this Event
About the event
Join us for an intruiging evening as Dr. Margaret McFall-Ngai, a visiting scientist from Caltech, shares about the fascinating world of bacterial symbiosis. Our view of microbes has shifted from seeing them as agents of disease to recognising them as essential partners in sustaining life. From sea anemones to humans, all animals depend on these intricate relationships.
Advances in biology and DNA sequencing now reveal the vast diversity and influence of microbes, challenging traditional views of life’s organisation. This lecture will explore how symbiosis is redefining modern biology and guiding new approaches to today’s environmental challenges.
Registations start at 6:30pm. Light refrehments will be provided.
About the speaker
Dr. Margaret McFall-Ngai is a pioneer in animal-bacterial symbiosis. She is best known for her work in exploring the symbiosis of the Hawaiian bobtail squid and Vibrio Fisheri, a bioluminescent bacteria. She is now a Faculty Associate in Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology and a Senior Scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science.
