The Power of Play
Calling all education professionals. Join us, in person, with Ben Kingston-Hughes, author of 'Why Children need Joy' and 'A Very Unusual Journey into Play', for an afternoon 4:00-5:30pm AND evening 6:30-7:30pm of inspiring exploration in to the power and neuroscience of play for all. Please come to both sessions or just one.
Workshop 1 - 4:00-5:30pm
Loose Parts Play and Open-ended Resources for all 3-11 years: Open ended resources and loose parts play unlock imagination, creativity and divergent thinking in a way that no amount of formal learning or screen time can ever come close to. Research repeatedly shows that children exposed to interactive environments develop bigger, more complex, faster and more resilient brains! This course is a vibrant exploration of some amazing low cost or free resources that we can use to support children’s development and highlights the fascinating new research behind these wonderful resources. Ben will also include working with vulnerable and neurodiverse children.
Workshop 2 - 6:30-7:30pm
Powerful Play – The Neuroscience and Benefits of Play: This workshop looks at the fundamental neuroscience of play and how we can use this knowledge to help children emotionally reset, build resilience and promote positive mental health. It looks at why children play and exactly what is happening in their brains when they do.
