About this Event
In 'A Madness Most Discreet', The Portrait Players explore ‘veiled expressions of love in 17th and 18th century salons, showcasing music of the period from Paris, London and Rome’, and featuring pieces by le Camus, Campion, d’Ambruys, de Murcia, Handel, Purcell, Corbetta and Eccles.
The all-female trio, formed in January 2023. consists of Claire Ward - soprano, Kristiina Watt - theorbo and lute and Miriam Nohl - cello and viola da gamba. Described in its debut concert as ‘beguiling’, their programmes are inspired by historical characters. They have quickly established a busy concert schedule across the UK. The trio lead busy freelance lives and work with many of Europe’s leading orchestras and ensembles including The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The Academy of Ancient Music, La Nuova Musica, The English Concert and The Monteverdi Choir.
This concert is kindly supported by Making Music’s Philip & Dorothy Green Young Artists scheme

VERY IMPORTANT - please note! There is a Cavendish Village Hall in the village of Beeley (postcode DE45 2NU), 2.5 miles away at the other end of the Chatsworth Park from Edensor. This shows up when you Google "Cavendish Hall Edensor", and we have been told that one or two car SatNav systems have been wrongly locating our postcode DE45 1PJ there as well, so please check you are headed for Edensor and not Beeley before you drive off! If you Google "Peak Music Society" it will show the correct position on the map.
