This remastered film follow's Pope John Paul II's first trip to the U.S. as leader of the Roman Catholic Church in the fall of 1979.
When an Iowa farmer sent a passionate invitation to the newly elected pontiff to visit Iowa, he set a breathtaking and unprecedented event for the state into motion. The Des Moines Roman Catholic Diocese commissioned a filmmaker to document the preparations, offering a unique perspective on the pope's visit to Iowa.
Refreshments and optional tours of the Church of the Land will be available beginning at 5 p.m.
A discussion with John Torpy, producer at Iowa PBS, and individuals featured in the documentary will follow the hour-long online premiere.
